First-degree murder and attempted murder are punishable by life in prison. Mr. Baker has helped several clients avoid life sentences; either by persuading the prosecution or the judge that a less severe sentence was more appropriate, or by convincing a jury that the defendant’s conduct was justified in some manner.
Gang charges greatly increase the potential punishment for any felony offense and are frequently used by the prosecution as a tool to “bully” a defendant into accepting an unfairly severe conviction and sentence or to trick a jury into thinking that a defendant has to be guilty simply because he is associated with a gang.
Minors charged with criminal offenses can still face serious consequences such as incarceration and a permanent criminal record. Most juvenile cases are handled in the juvenile justice system, where the procedures are very different to “adult” court and demand specialized knowledge and skills from an attorney.
